Are you a Leader?

Posted on

So many times I meet women who are afraid of putting themselves out there.

We are so scared of offending people that we don’t push our businesses forward or make the sales or referral calls, which we know are good for us and our productivity.  We are so terrified to actually stand up and be noticed, that we blend in with the crowd and conform to the norm just in case someone should talk about us or, God forbid, judge us.

It’s my opinion that in this life you really only have two choices:

1.  Put yourself out there and risk being judged

2.  Conform to the norm and be ignored.

You really can’t have it both ways.  You cannot do something worthwhile and put yourself out there, and not have people talk about you.  People will judge and it’s not always comfortable.  They will judge you on prejudice and with a lack of information.  They will usually not look any deeper than what they see on the surface, and you will risk being misjudged, underestimated and treated unfairly.

The key is to rise above it and carry on regardless.  Remember your mother telling you “stick and stones may break your bones?”.  Same principle applies here.

As a society we are programmed to be quiet and to follow.  The status quo is the status quo for a reason.  But once your choose to rise above it, and realise that it doesn’t affect your life, you can go on to achieve greatness – far more than you ever imagined.

It’s really that simple.

So do you want to risk being noticed or be safely ignored?  It’s entirely up to you.
